xfwm4 already has a compositor if you want to use it. Not sure why you'd want compiz overhead trash on top of that.

XFCE hosts a bunch of projects they're integrating into their desktop http://goodies.xfce.org/ and maybe look here http://xfce-look.org/ for user contributed themes, icons etc.

I don't know I'm not really big on tweaking my desktop though. I like XFCE cause it's lean and mean but entirely usable.

You could also check Mr. Workman's board for Xfce plug-ins:

Ditto, the Salix repository:

Compiz work fine with xfce, but don't forget the magic incantation 'xfwm4 --replace &' =]

edit: You can find additional info about themes here: http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/install_new_themes

Below are the packages I build using sbopkg (in order) to add onto my XFCE install.

libsexy
exo-notify
xarchiver
thunar-archive-plugin
thunar-media-tags-plugin
xfce4-mount-plugin
xfce4-places-plugin
xfce4-taskmanager
xfburn
ristretto
