xfce shutdown/reboot buttons

I'm running slackware 12 and xfce. I'm curious as to why I cannot use the shutdown/reboot buttons? If I signon as root I get the options to shutdown or reboot. But if I'm sign on as a regular user I don't get those options, why? How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply! This is what worked:
%users ALL=(root) NOPASSWD: /usr/libexec/xfsm-shutdown-helper

I didn't try to add the user to the power group as the other person suggested since this is what got it working. Thanks.
