Sure, Mr. Didier Spaier
Code:
root@slackcrypt:~# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),6(disk),10(wheel)
root@slackcrypt:~# who -r
         run-level 3  2015-09-09 18:11                   last=S
root@slackcrypt:~# xdm
Results in this:

Thanks, I see now. Some of us (me included) assumed that you initially logged in as a regular user (probably because that's what most of us do most of the time, for security reasons). Would we have known that you log in as root, the answer "kdm" could have been provided in the first answer I presume.

FYI, sorry if I add this but maybe can be useful for your setup (IMHO, I just would have used init 4): one that has access to the keyboard can easily press the Ctrl-Alt-F1 keys to switch to the console and then background the xdm process with Ctrl-Z, having access to a root shell.

if you prefer to do something like that, maybe it's better to launch xdm like
Code:
exec xdm
so that the shell invoking xdm get closed.

That sounds like malice.
Malice? I'm not sure you understand the definition of malice. Per Merriam Webster, malice is defined as:

Quote:
desire to cause pain, injury, or distress to another
I certainly had no desire to cause pain or distress to you. I only provided a similiar example of what you were attempting to do and why the responses were the way they were. I provided it solely for informational purposes, not to belittle you or your knowledge. We all start from somewhere.

I am sorry you misunderstood my intentions. I am here on this forum to provide help, not to berate users for information they do not know. I have been on both the giving and receiving end of help on many forums over the years, and I make it a point to not be rude to users. Looking through my post, I see no reason for you to see it as malice, but if you could inform me on why you felt it was malice, I can try and change my responses for future posts.
