Xfce Keyboard shortcuts problem with Slackware 13.1
 

Starting with Slackware 13.1, I am having trouble with keyboard application shortcuts in Xfce. Most of the time, they are not set up at login, for example Alt+F2 for Run prompt, and some custom ones. The fix each time is to kill the xfce4-settings-helper process, which somehow automatically restarts, and the keyboard shortcuts all work after that. But this is annoying.

Has anyone else seen this? I found this bug report which seems to match this problem. But there is no fix, and the bug report goes back to Aug 2009. http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5639


The crazy thing about this is that I'm pretty sure Slackware 13.0 has the exact same version Xfce-4.6.1 but I never saw this problem under 13.0.

I had this same exact problem while running slackware64-current right before the release of 13.1. When I installed 13.1, I completely blew away my entire /home partition to clear out all of the old configurations. That seemed to solve the problem for me.

Oops, sorry, I should have seen that post. Yes it is likely the same problem, but for me it started (not ended) with Slackware 13.1.

I am disinclined to blow away my Xfce profile as a test, as I'm sure I will never get it back the way it is. But I've tried this as a new user with an empty home directory. The problem was easily reproduced. I defined two application keys: The "windows" key to open the Xfce menu, and Ctrl+Alt+t to make a terminal. Log out and back in and try those plus Alt+F2 which is pre-defined as "Run". (I also set it not to prompt or save the session. I don't know if this is a factor, but I don't think so.)

The first time, the Menu key worked, but Alt+F2 and my terminal key did not. Killed xfce4-settings-helper and all 3 keys worked. Second login: all 3 keys worked. Third login: same as first, 1 worked and 2 did not.

Most of the time, but not always, it fails to load at least some of the keys. This intermittent nature and the partial loading looks to me like it could be some kind of race condition at login. But I really don't know. It is annoying though.

Sorry, I forgot to include that I've been running Robby's package of xfce-4.6.2. You might want to try that as well.
