bobzilla, no worries - I didn't interpret it as a criticism (even though it would have been fair had you intended it that way); it had never occurred to me that either of those things would be encountered, because after all, everyone does things just like me, right? ;-)

Should there be a gio-querymodules in the doint.sh of the packages that install gio modules, such as glib-networking, exo, and the others?
Quote:
gio-querymodules creates a giomodule.cache file in the listed directories. This file lists the implemented extension points for each module
that has been found. It is used by GIO at runtime to avoid opening all modules just to find out which extension points they are implementing.

Yes, there should. I'll get that corrected soonish (I hope) - thanks!

Are you sure about exo though? I don't see a gio module installed by it...

Not for exo.
* Build GIO module: no (not needed after glib 2.27)

Here's the shared objects in my gio/modules.
Code:
libgiofam.so* libgiognutls.so* libgiolibproxy.so* libgioremote-volume-monitor.so* libgsettingsgconfbackend.so* libgvfsdbus.so*

Failed to open "network:///".
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus).

Does avahi-discover show PCs on your local network?

Can you ping a host on the LAN by name, or only by IP. If you can not resolve hosts on the LAN by name, you may want to edit /etc/hosts or install http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13...work/nss-mdns/

Thunar network browsing requires gvfs, which should be installed.

Smile current-with vector pkgs

I have had to resort to a netbook (with a 3G usb modem) due to a relocation, and I had trouble getting slackware running. So I decided to load vectorlinux version 7 with xfce4.8 and give it a spin. After loading network manager I had this online and it is very well customized and suits a netbook well. The only draw back IMHO is Gslapt - I prefer slackpkg.

I decided to use vector xfce4.8 packages with slackware current, and all works very well and stable; including accessing usb and local partitions (if you install the <vasm.txz).

All the packages are on my system. In order to upgrade, is this just a matter of installing all the packages, starting with deps?

In other words just -

Code:
installpkg GConf-2.32.4-x86_64-2_rlw.txz
... etc?

Good news and bad news.

The good. Since installing Mr. Workman's latest (6 Nov.) dependency updates Xfce 4.8 has become stable, that is,
the window manager and mouse haven't (yet) disappeared as they always have in the past.

The bad. The volume keyboard controls no longer work. Ditto, the weather plug-in. It installs and will let you
change the properties, that is, search for a new location, but it won't retrieve the information, and, therefore,
of course, display the latest weather conditions. I've rebuilt the weather plug-in, but the problem remains.
Just FYI.

That link will be broken once that branch is merged to master (which happens before the next public update).

Ah, so.
Thank you, gentlemen, for the information regarding the weather plug-in.
