Question xchat and slack 8.1

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I will post and see...

When I attempt to load any perl script into xchat it crashes with a seg fault. I have tried some different versions to no avail. It worked fine in Slack 8.0 and other distros I have used, but it won't load the scripts on any of my three machines running slack 8.1.

Anyone else have this problem or a fix for it?

I am still running Slackware8.0, but I have built XChat [most current *stable* version] from source. When I tried to include plugins and scripts, I found that the demos provided with the source would NOT build without error (the whole build failed utterly). So I have excluded those for now. What this suggests to me is that there may be some inherent problem with XChat and the Perl or Python scripts now (new version vs. old versions).
