.Xauthority problems when starting up

I'm using Slackware 10, KDE 3.2. It never used to do this but now, whenever I try and log in on a user other then root, it says "No write access to $Home /home/a_priebe47". Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

Hmm, didn't seem to fix the problem. Here is what happens when I type startx:

Code:
xauth: timeout in locking authority file
It prints that out 3 times, and the switches to the kde background and a pop windows comes up saying the couldn't write ti $home /home/a_priebe47 thing, and then there is another window that pops up saying:

Code:
Could not start ksmserver.
I also noticed that my Xauthority file is blank. Any more ideas? I've recently installed Smaug in my home dir. Thanks.

I would try to mv /home/a_priebe47/.Xauthority /home/a_priebe47/.Xauthority.bak

Then try to startx again

If that fails, try man xauth to figure out, maybe a fix can be ' xauth generate :0 '...

Two Times in a row

After doing an apt-get update on me home Debian machine.... I encountered the same issue.
I was receiving the .Xauthority problems....

chown -R <username> /home/<username>

as root.

This has now helped me twice! Thanks so much for taking the time to post.
