X11 problems with i810 --
 

:cry: this is the big negative for me, i would run slackware (X11) just fine and dandy... but then i restart or turn it off for the day. i come back and then i type startx & ... (i tried startx;) so then it goes fine and then the X cursor comes on, then i try moving it and it moves real sluggish... i then replace the XF86Config with the default one Patrick put on here and it works but why is it that the XF86Config that xfree86setup made only works when it wants to? when i try going back to the VTs, i see green scattered lines... corrupted... its wierd... im not really sure what file i should put up because the X11 logs dont show any (EE) or (WW) ?:mad: :mad: :cry: any suggestions will be appreciated...

should i get the newest ver (CVS) of X11?

i think your using the vesa driver its a compatible with everything but sucks driver. kinda like in windows in boots to a 640x480 16bit color display it works but it sucks. that causes the green lines when you try to switch vts.

i wouldnt suggest getting the cvs version you would have the same problem.

i think what is happening is when you use the xfree86setup your choosing your video card its trying to use the i810 video driver and its trying to use hardware acceleration but you might have the wrong permissions for the device file and you cant get access to the device. you might want to try your xfree86Config file again but run as root. RUNNING X AS ROOT IS A BAD IDEA. but see if it works and get out. If that works you need to find out what /dev/ file is associated with your video card and give your user rights to read and write to it.
