I have an old P1 120 desktop that I was using as a firewall, until I put Slackware 9.1 on a P1 120 laptop and found that it works quite well. The laptop is surprisingly fast, even with X (which it definitely was not with Mandrake 8.2), and so it followed logically that I try to get the same setup running on the desktop. I got the desktop to boot into Slackware 9.1 successfully after figuring out how to install it without a CD drive and to get LILO working with the desktop's SCSI hard drive. However, once I got logged in, I found that the video card, which, according to lsmod, is a Matrox MGA Ultima/Impression, does not seem to work with X. I've played around with various settings in xf86config to no avail. When I type 'startx', the screen simply goes blank and stays that way until I log in to it with ssh on another computer and kill X. I searched Google for information on the video card, and found an old message (sorry, can't give URL because this is only my second post) on a mailing list that claims that the video card is not supported by XFree86. However, I would still like to try to get it working, if possible. The post was made 6 years ago. Could there possibly be some support for the card by now? In any case, here is my XF86Config:
