X problems after upgrade

Hi
After fully installing and setting up Slackware 9.1 I used swaret to upgrade to the 'current' distribution. However, now when my computer boots X loads and gets to the grey fuzzy screen with a busy mouse cursor but GDM never loads. I've tried using xf86config to re-setup X but it didn't change anything, so I don't know if this is a problem with X or one or the login managers or KDE/gnome. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hit "ctrl+alt+f6", login as root, open up /etc/rc.d/rc.4, and comment out the lines for GDM. It will revert to KDM. I won't garuntee that this will work, but it will help us with your problem.

I tried that, but KDM doesn't load either... I also tried re-installing x, but that didn't help. Is there some way to check if X is even trying to load GDM/KDM?

The upgrade did bring me from KDE 3.1 to 3.2, and GNOME was also upgraded among other things so maybe some directories changed/broke?

Did you try XDM?

How do you try to switch to GDM? do you do init 4, gdm, or what? Can you run startx?

Hmm... interestingly enough, I restarted my computer and this time KDM loaded fine. I still haven't tried to switch to GDM yet, but I think it might have been the problem.
