x is taking alot of memory

In top it says its taking 11.1 I have 512 mb So thats exactly how much memory?

How do I cut the amount of memory it uses, what can I disable?

what wm are you using? kde for example uses lots of mem. switching to something lighter helpls alot. But 512 you should be fine. are you having memory problems? is linux writing to your swap alot? linux uses cache and buffering, so it tries to make the most of the memory you have. the actualy amount is quite a bit smaller. (usually top reports to bea round 830M on my 1GB Ram however the actual amount used is more like around 250MB)

I use fluxbox-0.9.12-i486-1

Do you think if I ran xorgconfig, it would help some?

The problem is when I get to some stuff, I dont know exactly what to put since I dont know the exact specs of my monitor.

Is there a way I can find out, something similiar to system properties/device manager in windows? well I need something that would at least tell me specifics.

ow much swap space did you added? Sometimes if you add too much swap space files tend to bypass RAM and locate themselves on the HD partition designated as swap, hence making everything a hecka lot slower
