X crashes rather often, but not in any consistent way. It seems to involve web browsers and especially flash player, but it has crashed entirely without provocation and sometimes it won't even start. I'm really hoping it will last long enough for me to post this thread. Below, I'm pasting one crash message, and I am attaching the log.

Could you please post the result for the following command:
What about computer temperature, have you checked if the fan inside is freely spining, if there is dust stuck?

Also run the memtest available in many live cd/ rescue live cd.

Hi. Also, with those specs you'll need to beaten down the hatches. Xfce and Konqueror can use a lot of RAM* if you can upgrade to the max (RAM I see is under $30,) plus lighter software could help?

Thanks so much for the help thus far. Here are the results of lspci:

The Toughbook doesn't have a fan. It dissipates heat directly into the chassis, and it's designed to operate at high temperature. I don't think the temperature is the problem. That said, I'm a noob to the software, but all the crashes involve lots of scrolling numbers, and if I had to guess I'd say it's probably a software problem.

The RAM is a little low, but I have a desktop CPU/RAM/SWAP monitor and the RAM usage is never above 25%. Is xfce really high-RAM? I thought it was supposed to be "low-calorie"...

EDIT: I just checked... turns out the RAM stat I copied from Amazon was wrong. I have 734 MB RAM.

The first thing to look for is bad memory. Random crashes are sometimes related to power surges or static electricity+heat, especially in the winter when the air is dry, and it takes a while to dissipate so it doesn't reboot right away. I have had this happen on desktops, but it was always an older machine so the guess is that it generates more heat than when the machine was new. A humidifier may or may not solve the problem but is a good idea anyway. Also, if you have a small fan that you can point at the back of the laptop, it will show for sure whether or not the machine is getting older and generating more heat than the case can handle. Assuming you are using this at home and don't have an isolated ground, notice if the crash occurs only when the laptop is plugged into a wall, and if so plug it into a UPS or surge protector at least, which is always a good idea.

There is a bug with that driver and you'll need to do some updates to fix the problem, this thread will give you some more info.
