My slackware 9.1's X will not start. It keeps saying:

Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running
Please help me!

did you happen to re-compile your kernel??
Under Networking Options, make sure that "UNIX" sockets option is enabled!! this will fix the prob.

I didn't recompile anything. I cannot get into any Window Manager so how do I change the Networking Option?

the networking option he was talking about is an option when you set up your kernel config for compiling a kernel. but if you didnt recompile anything that shouldnt be a problem.
when is this happening can you give us some more info? can you startx while running as root?

See into /var/log/XFree86.0.log query for lines starting with (EE), that indicates for errors. Most possibly errors are pointer device protocols ...
Or u may use xfree86setup to generate a new XF86Config n put it in /etc/X11 n go through the scratch with startx n check /var/log/XF..
If u don't need to filter out ur own configuration from the old one, u may delete the sheebang wut u might had not looked into for long, if no "fatal error are exploited ur time". Stick with the new created XF86Config is surely better.

The tooth friend had forget to tell me about the bootdiskett was borrowed from bposs directly, it was not a bootdisk, it contain only 3 script files for syslinux, it caused too many errors for booting only
