X broken after nvidia driver install.

Alright, so I downloaded the 6629 version of Nvidia's linux drivers.
I install it. And attempt to edit my xorg.conf file.
I followed this set of instructions for editing my xorg.conf file. >>
The Linuxquestions.org wiki on nvidia graphics drivers.

And I save, restart X. But it has a error.

Code:
Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Undefined Device "VESA Framebuffer" referenced by Screen "Screen 1".
And at the end of the error.

Code:
XIO: Fatal IO error 104 (Connection rest by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
I have 0 clue on what a framebuffer is, or what nVidia's framebuffer would be to fix this.
Any ideas?

WHen you edited the xorg.conf file did you change the identifier under the driver and forget to change it under the screen section?
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "XFX5600"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "NvAGP" "1"
EndSection
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "XFX5600"
    Monitor "SyncMaster 710N"

the above poster seem to be right friend..
and more

I can foresee what is written under: Section "Screen"
in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
isn't there a line like this?

Device "VESA Framebuffer"

you have nividia's driver installed, but you're not pointing to it...
your are still pointing the VESA driver to start your X..

with 6629 when i startx all i get is the big nvidia logo and my cursor - my window manager doesn't come-up... if i remove 6629 and re-install 6111 it works fine... what could be causing this??? i'd love for my family to enjoy the latest nvidia drivers... any help would be greatly appreciated... BTW, my card is a TNT2 M64 (32MB)...

EDIT: okay, nevermind... from what i've googled it's a known issue for TNT2 M64 cards with the 6629 driver... it looks like the issue might be fixed in the next version, meanwhile i'll have to stick with the 6111 driver unless i can find some kinda workaround...
