Exclamation X & Video Card Problems

OK, this may be an easy one you guys: I'm trying to get X to fire up, but won't because is said that the drivers for the video card don't support 24-bit color. I can put in into 16-bit or 8-bit, but that's not wha I want. I have a small amount of knowledge in the text-based area, and would rather be a GUI. I also need to figure out how to get the thing to find the inernet. Here is what it said to me when I started X:

Code:
Using authority file /root/.Xauthority
Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority
Using authority file /root/.Xauthority

Still haven't gotten the model number off my ASUS mainboard, it's not just written on the board itself.....

I noticed you use the vga driver but with the nvidia card you'd better use nvidia driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html) and edit your xorg.conf with nvidia settings.

[edit]
It seems that nvidia releases new driver (6106) with acpi support and nvidia-settings GUI I actually download it.
Make sure you download the good one (Linux Display Driver - IA32)

Sorry for the long delay, I got it to work with the drivers that were pre-installed. Everything is working very good now. I guess I could've fixed it myself if I gave it enough time. Keefaz, I'll look into those driver ASAP. THX
