X & kernel complications
I'm having fun installing and learning to configure & use Slack. But there's a few points I'd like advice on:
- X crashes repeatedly with a "Signal 11" message - My attempt at a custom kernel compile crashed with a similar message - after the failed kernel compile, make has ceased to work. Even when I use -f to point it at the makefile So, am I right in assuming a hardware problem is causing the segmentation faults, X and gcc being fairly solid packages? And can anyone tell me what's gone wrong with make ? |
Mmmm I just read something about this. Are you running on a laptop perhaps?
I can't remember the location where i read it, but it could be several things: A defect in memory A defect on harddisk A overheated processor (With laptops) I had the same problem (SIG11) and it turned out that make was so stressing my CPU it got to hot and turned itself off. |

That was the link I forgot about indeed.... Thanks to xushi

No, not a laptop - just an old, cheap computer bought when 64MB of RAM was considered a powerful system :)
