I do agree that we need to be informed here if the site goes down for any reason. People overreact, and then this happens. Slackware is NOT dieing, there is plenty of activity in current. If I understand Eric correctly, slackware.com is hosted by a hosting company, and the hosting company apparently is having a problem.

It is interesting how she made it personal, even tho it wasn't.

Who's putting words in who's mouth now... Nobody even mentioned the word "hate" before this post. And now we somehow suddenly hate her, and she "knows" this...

There's not much more to say ... the evidence stands for itself. It's clear that we have made a personal attack on her, because she "knows" we hate her, somehow, even tho the word was never mentioned, except by her.

EDIT2:

Wrong again. Stop misinterpreting my words. This thread should be closed.

I'm sorry. How exactly is it hosted then? Is it Pat owns the server, but has them at a hosting company, or something else?

As I understand from what's been said, the server is hosted at a hosting company, but it belongs to PV, and it's a hardware problem, not a hosting one.

Ok, that's what I just noticed. I apologize again to Eric, I should have read it more thoroughly before posting.

Niels Horn told me around that time that slackwiki.org was registered to Erik Hanson, though I am not sure what happened. I presume Erik either deciding it wasn't needed or the registration simply lapsed. Either way it seems that slackwiki.com/.org are not "official". Sure, like SlackBuilds.org the wiki is important to the wider community but it isn't one of PatV's sites.

Edit: It seems that the registration lapsed once previously (roughly a year before), so it is reasonable to expect it might be the same thing this time. Though as I said, it is not an official site anyway. Also it seems to be run by the same groups of people who maintain SlackBuilds.org. If so they are doing it for free in their spare time. So no complaints from me. We only need one domain for slackwiki anyway.
Yeah, Erik forgot to renew again. In the past, it was as simple as paying the (late) renewal fee a few days later, and all was well. However, it seems that the registrant was bought out or turned evil or something since last time, because they wanted a "holding fee" of $250+ this time, and then there was still no guarantee that we would get the domain back, thus slackwiki.com was registered.

Look what our "Syndicate Linux News" aggregator just picked up. A (good) article on this by LQ regular MS3FGX!

Nothing, which, ultimately, is what fueled the current "firestorm." The comment about "old equipment and lack of funds" was the spark that ignited the fire.
