No. What IS ridiculous is people whining and panicking when the situation has been explained to them.

When it actually should be FIXED. And, as you may have noticed, I am not the only one who's whining.
And the number of whining who annoys you so much would be much less if they could get a response from the site.
Situation explained ? Let's see

'A guy comes to a hospital to see his sick wife. Every time he comes he finds closed doors without any notice.
When he looses his patience and starts shaking the doors the annoyed doctor appears saying: "we've explained you
two months ago that your wife got a hardware problem, so go away and stop whining"'.

It has been explained, numerous times actually, and this constant call to panic stations is really very silly. All it takes, on everyone's behalf, is a little time to read the information that has been provided by reliable sources. Once you have done that you would realise you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Move on, build a bridge, get over it.

Why should it be fixed? What do you need it for?
You can still use your OS and updates are being released, so why are you whining?
I'm just getting into Slackware and managed to grab a few different install images and update an installed system all while the website was down. If I as a new Slacker can do that I can't understand why anyone is whining about this.

Right, that's it... I'm drawing a line at the Kettle! There is definitely a Kettle! And it's staying that way!

He already mentioned this, in this very thread.

Yeah, read it. Thought I'd mention it again in case some of the whiners & panickers hadn't noticed it.

I am actually pretty sure that Slackware is an operating system, not a web service. So the site is down. And? Does that prevent your OS from running? Does that prevent you from reading in this thread or in this sticky where the problems are and where mirrors are?
I simply fail to understand at all why it should be a problem when the website is down. When you want to go to the website that implies that you actually can read (not much pictures on that site, besides the propaganda stuff), so where lies the problem in reading where the mirrors are?

Because it generates an apparently unstoppable stream of fud and whining that annoys me like hell? (yeah I know, now I'm even adding to it...)

It shouldn't: the first sticky thread is about that.

One of the basic forum rules (anywhere) is that nobody should post without reading the sticky threads.

First, don't press ENTER at the end of each line.

Second, this is why it's taking so long:

"There are also offers for virtual space, and (most helpful of all), some people offering to take a look at the main issue, which is that the site will need work (perhaps even a rewrite) to bring it up on a new machine."
http://www.itwire.com/business-it-ne...ing-volkerding

This isn't surprising when you realize that the old server was "an ancient VIA based system with a Celeron and 512MB of RAM" (http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.p...5&cid=39828905), which almost certainly wasn't running the latest web stack or libraries.

(I've sent Pat an offer to redo the site in Wordpress. He hasn't replied; I guess he's still considering his options).

This website saga is getting tiring now. To take advantage of the situation we could have a competition on the best 404 kind of page for slackware.

GazL: kettles do exist - they are not what they seem, though.
