Whoa! That is OLD hardware. I have one of those Promise cards and some similar stuff in a box out in the garage. A "new" network card for that outfit should be worth just about a Nickel... maybe a Buck at a local swap meet.
I wonder what version of Slackware it's running. Surely not the newest one?

Long time Slacker here. I haven't been on the LQ forums much recently, and there is always a lot to catch up on after a few weeks away.
I only just found this thread today, and it has been a bit upsetting to read. It compelled me to go straight to the Slackware store to make a donation.
After having used Slackware exclusively since 1999 [and having learned bucket loads in the process], I am only too happy to contribute wherever I can.
I would like to see Slackware continue to prosper, so I have this message for the Slackware Team: Please do not be too shy to ask for donations from me whenever necessary. I'm sure that I speak for many others when I say that Slackware has given me so much over the years and so I feel that donating money is the very least I can do in return. Thank you for compiling a rock solid OS.
The site is still down, while it's actually time for the new release . It was suggested to be a hardware problem ... I don't know, I had a double hardware problem last month - a 'lost' hardware RAID array and physically damaged and dead hard disk (corp web site). Managed to get everything up and running (recovered) in 3 weeks. So, I'm afraid there must be something else with the Slackware. I hope we all, old slackers, deserve an authoritative clarification.

There is no "time for the new release". A new version is released when Pat decides that the changes made are stable enough to release. With the major changes just made (like KDE 4.8), which need some time for testing, and hopefully some other changes that maybe come (XFCE 4.10, GIMP 2.8, ...) I hope that Pat will wait a little bit longer with a new release.
