Exclamation Wusb54gc

I have been attempting to get this piece of crap linksys usb wireless nic to work. I have been unsuccessful. I have tried many suggestions on other forums and have returned with no luck. I figured i might as well post on one related specifically to slackware however i doubt distro has little to do with it. If i do 'lsusb' i can see the the linksys plugged in. However the driver does not recofnize that this infact a wireless device. Has anyone else encountered this problem? whats ur solution? Does anyone know any supported wireless nics? I am not the most fluent in linux so please be as descriptive as possible. i greatly appreciate any assistance.

Bus 008 Device 005: ID 13b1:0020 Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g Adapter [ralink rt73]

Works for me (man I hate it when people say that )

Linksys does have a few different revisions for this device. The first step is to make sure it is actually recognized and the kernel module is loaded. As seen above, my device uses the ralink rt73 module.

I've pulled my hair out setting up inet1.conf, and have edited rc.wireless{.conf} in the past. Most of the time it worked. The simple way is to just use wicd, and be done with it. I only use my wireless stick to do remote trouble shooting for my nearby neighbors. It's easier to ssh/vnc/RDP over wireless to their local networks, than it is to go through an internet gateway. Depending on how far away they are, I always get faster response compared to the average 512-1MB/s upload internet speeds 'round here

With one of my neighbor's routers, I do have an issue getting this device to authenticate with WPA2, it's a Belkin router. The other routers, offer a mixture of WEP and WPA{2}, there's only issues with the Belkin.

Mine runs out-of-the-box with slackware 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2.

I had to hand-configure it before that, tho; check this link for additional info:

Can you let us know what distro (I assume it's slackware), etc.

cheers,

I am running slackware 13.0. my linksys usb is a rev 3. i believe its a ralink 2510 or 01 chipset. seems like people have most difficulty with rev 3. i have seen forums where people were successful with others.

It says here that it will work:
http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_p...ndname=Linksys

That means you can use either of the two drivers, but only one of them:
http://web.ralinktech.com/ralink/Hom...ort/Linux.html
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Note that alienbob has slackbuilds for the rt drivers:
http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/

As for configuration, others have posted how to do it. You can probably use wicd.

You could download the driver here and place it in /lib/firmware

and actually it's rt2870

http://www.4shared.com/file/eCQXmC7O/rt2870.html

I extracted it from ubuntu 12.04
