After finding many similar reports concerning other distributions, it seems like the best thing to do for now is to revert to the previous version of wqy-zenhei. But what would help me out a lot is if someone who encountered this problem could post explaining exactly what I'd need to do to recreate the issue here. That way I'll be able to test any solutions that I might find online (as well as newer versions).

I have troubles with various latin fonts when wqy-zenhei is installed. So I have been avoiding wqy-zenhei for quite some time. Furthermore, I'm not interested in anti-aliased cjk fonts, probably because my monitor's resolution is much lower than yours.

Could it be helpful if you directly discuss your problem with the wqy maintainer? She (Fang) seems to have her own difficulties. See this thread: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=476459
