wlan0 up, ping LAN ok, can't resolve domain names

Hi all,

I've used Linux in the past with the auto-magic configuration utilities but wanted to try Slackware as it forced the user to get their hands dirty and really understand whats' going on.

I've successfully brought up wlan0 and can ping local LAN addresses however I can't resolve domain names without hard coding the router IP into /etc/resolv.conf. How do I get Linux to be assigned a DNS address via DHCP?

Appreciate your help and thanks.

Might want to set that up permanently by using netconfig as root, or have a look at /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf to do it manually. You could also check it out after running netconfig to see what it actually does (not much)

Doesn't netconfig only setup eth0 ?

I thought wlan0 had to be setup by editing /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf ?

I edited /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf and that did the trick. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Just remember that Slackware is unlike many other distributions in that it doesn't have cute little wizards or step-by-step GUI tools for every task; an old adage that I have found true is that when you learn to master Slackware, you've learned to master Linux as a whole.

Man pages, LQ.org, and Google were what taught me to use it, and I can't say I've ever been more satisfied with an OS choice.
