wireless problem with thinkpad t40 slackware


Hi i have aan IBM thinkpad t40, I'm having problem installing the built-in wireless network adapter, when I typed lspci, it came up with the device aironet cisco ....

but when i typed in iwconfig as root, it doesn't find the device?

Are you sure that the driver module is loaded in memory? Try typing "lsmod" at a command line and see if you see the appropriate module. You can also try checking /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog to see if the card is being recognized at boot up.

Hi, thanks for the response, the internal wireless adapter was not found by lsmod but by lspci.

lspci will always show the device because it's connected. That doesn't mean anything other than 'Yes, it's connected and here's what it says it is.'

lsmod shows what drivers are loaded into the kernel's memory. You need one of these drivers to use this card.
