Wireless network almost setup

Hey all. I've just gotten around to reinstalling slackware 10.1 on my laptop, which has some sort of broadcom mini-pci wireless card in so I gather. Using ndiswrapper and a driver I found I've managed to get to the stage that after entering:

iwconfig wlan0 essid belkin54g (doesn't seem to save this after reboot)
modprobe ndiswrapper (added this to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules now)
ifconfig wlan0 up

it will show as connected to the router. the kde wireless program (I forget the name) shows it as connected also, but as having no IP. So, my problem is basically, how can I get it to assign the wlan0 interface an IP etc.? It uses dhcp and I tried using dhcpd wlan0 instead of the ifconfig command as stated somewhere, but it simply says wlan0 not found. Any help would be great on this!

It appears that dhcpd and dhcpcd aren't quite the same thing...oops

You need the interface to be up, and *then* use dhcpcd.

IOW:
iwconfig wlan0 essid "my-essid" key "my-key"
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhcpcd wlan0

The essid won't store between reboots, btw. You can configure it using kde's program, or through a shell script at startup. You might also want to change the SSID to something a little more random. You wouldn't believe how many wlan's there are out there with an essid of "belkin54g", "linksys", "dlink", or "mshome". Just changing it can do wonders for increasing the security of your network.
