wireless mouse problem

i've just installed slackware on my computer it works fine, i login, i startx, everything loads up fine.
BUT.. my mouse is being gay, i can only move the cursor on the screen up and down, not left or right, even when i move the mouse left and right it just moves up and down. btw its a wireless logitech mouse, i specified USB mouse when installing and now i dont know how to fix it. The cursor is stuck in a column that goes directly down the middle of my screen so i cant open the main menu. Its not the mouse cause i've booted up knoppix live cd and it works fine on this, any help appriciated.

Make a backup of your Xorg configuration file with: cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
Open /etc/X11/xorg.conf with a editor (mcedit is easy to use if you don't know anyone) and change in the mouse section, make the protocol IMPS/2 with a line like: Options "Protocol" "IMPS/2"

I don't know exactly what you need to do, but if you do control-shift-numlock, you can use the arrow keys on the numpad to move the cursor around, and the 5 key in the centre to click. It's no doubt something in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to alter.

gbonvehi is right - one might want to try other protocols. My Logitech wireless used ExplorerPS2.

IMPS/2 must be used as a usb mouse.

now you must see what is in the Driver option ...
