Wireless - correct key in rc.wireless.conf + have to load it with iwconifig
I have Slackware 122.1 installed on my backup system. I have a wired ethernet card, and a wireless card.
Wired card works great, right from first install. Wireless - I had to learn how to config it... Anyway, I can get it to connect to my router, only after I enable it, and run the command 'iwconfig eth1 key 11222334455' ( not the real key ). I have the key entered in the rc.wireless.conf file. I have verified it is the correct key. The card is
Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01)
The driver Quote:

Apparently you did not enter that key in the right place, or you forgot to also add some configuration to rc.inet1.conf for that wireless device.
Read http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...ckware:network which is an article I wrote recently to explain the rc.inet1.conf and rc.wireless.conf files a bit better (the available documentation in the Slackbook is too generic). Eric |
Thank-you for the reply. I have read some of your documentation. I will have another go at it, after reading the material at the link provided.

I have followed your documentation, and have added all wireless config to the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file. The wireless card works now, thank-you for the well written documentation.

Hello Alien Bob,
Your networking document is awesome ... fantastic work, thanks! One thing I was wondering ... is there a .PDF version of it anywhere that I can download? (I have tried using the 'printable version' and converting it to a PDF ... but it came out looking a little odd and is not as easy to read). It would be really great to have a permanent copy of your document, formatted the same as the webpage, to store in my 'Manuals' folder. Thanks again, I'll look forward to hearing from you :) Cheers Orbit |
