wireless connection software

I have Slackware 10 with Fluxbox (no KDE or GNOME). I've read that KDE offers a way for you to see if there's a strong wireless internet signal being received. Is there another way to do this from the terminal or GUI software that'll work in Fluxbox?

I used this prior to it being included in KDE.

There's also dock apps for the slit, like wmwifi.

wmwifi looks good-the other seems to only be for KDE now.
