WIne on Slackware64 14.2

Hello!

Has anyone successfully installed Wine 2.0.1 on a Slackware 64 system?
I found that the Slackbuild package is only compatible with 32-bit systems.

Unless you only plan to build wine64, which will not run most windows programs. You can not install wine on stock Slackware64. Your options are a a 32-bit Slackware chroot environment and some bind mounts to /home, or go with AlienBob's multilib.

I would recommend the latter in most cases, but if you are trying to keep a system closer to stock, former works well if you only need 32-bit windows software.

The transition from 32bit and 64bit is a long and somewhat difficult process, it seems. It's even more "traumatic" than from 16 to 32. There is an enormous amount of 32 bit apps hanging around and only recently have I begun to see "64bit Only" appearing for Linux. The conflict will only grow until any imagined benefit of 64bit (talking about SOHO Desktop here, not Enterprise) becomes so overwhelming that 32bit versions just fade away and/or are replaced with 64bit. Currently I am running two versions of Slackware, one 14.0 32bit and this, 14.2 64 Multilib. Alien Bob did an amazing job on multilib but it does require some extra thought and work but that seems the nature of "transitional". I imagine in 3-5 years having pure 64bit and pure 32bit (for those few apps that stop evolving) dual boot (it just doesn't take that long) and within 7-10 years, 64bit only.

I only recently installed 14.2 64bit Multilib since I don't like Pulseaudio, have no plans for Bluetooth, and have quite a number of 32bit only apps, and my experience with multilib is that while it occasionally requires a little extra work, it has had no negative effect on 64bit whatsoever and is in general entirely transparent and unobtrusive. If Wine apps have any value to you, for now, some way of handling 32bit is a requirement, whether you chroot, VM, multilib or dual boot. For gaming, the only remaining reason I still run any Windoze-only apps, I recommend one of the latter two options.

If you have a 32 bit version of wine installed you can install PlayOnLinux and with it you can install 64 bit wine packages of various versions in ~/.PlayOnLinux/wine

Its a good program. You can install as many versions of 32 bit and 64 bit wine in your user account as you wish, including the very latest. http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14...ch=playonlinux

You need multilib.

You can't run 32-bit WINE on a pure 64-bit system.

I use 2.0.1 regularly, no issues. You need multilib first.

Something I posted on this forum before:

Hope it helps.
