Wine & the current Xorg 1.9.2 / Savage driver problem /32-bit/
There's a problem with Wine 1.3.6 and 1.3.7
After upgrading to the latest current packages, KDE seems to be OK, but invoking various Wine apps (even notepad.exe and winecfg) makes all desktop totally frozen. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't work. I had to switch off my IBM T23 (savage video onboard) manually. Is anybody here using Wine and the latest Slackware packages ? |

Same result, so yes I'm experiencing issues with wine though it's not locking up X at all.

Hate to be the only one replying, but native neverwinter nights is crashing as well:

Ok disregard all my posts *hangs head in shame*, I realise I had forgotten to reinstall my nvidia drivers after the last update, which while X loaded and ran fine, opengl apps obviously were borked.

So - do you have working Wine apps now in the latest current Slack ? |
Yes I do ....
|
I tried Fluxbox with the same result.
Wine applications are still freezing my desktop. I never had such Wine related problems as that one. Wine was freshly compiled, as always. Any suggestion, folks ? |
Thanks to dTd for replying.
Are there any other Slackers using current 32-bit Slack altogether with current Wine ? I have to solve this quirk. Recompiling Wine several times didn't help at all :-((( |
I tried to launch notepad and is ok
wine 1.3.7 (from http://www.slackers.it/repository/wine/) and -current at 32bit |

I found that this error takes place on the IBM T23 machine with Savage graphic card. Confirmed on the second T23 machine. When I installed current Slack and Wine on the other machine equipped with Intel graphics, all went fine ! So, maybe the current Savage driver is the problem ? |
I removed the savage video driver "xf86-video-savage-2.3.1-i486-3"
and activated "xorg.conf-vesa" file. Wine problem has gone away :-) I noticed very slow glxgears output in the range of 40-60, however. There must be a problem with the latest savage driver/ xorg 1.9.2 recompilation. How can we fix it ? |
