Window managers freeze xorg

Hi all,

I am using slack 10.0 with XFCE now. It works perfect, nothing goes wrong. I would try other window managers as well, so I installed blackbox,wmaker,fvwm2 and icewm yesterday.

I use xwmconfig to choose windows manager, nothing is changed (including settings) other than that, but Blackbox and wmaker stopped Xorg to continue its execution. (I have waited for 3-4 mins for each WM). The rest run perfectly on my box.
All packages are downloaded from current directory of slackware.com.

Any idea on that?

Thanks.

Are you trying to lauch them from a X session ?

When you boot, do you use to type 'startx' to enter X session or you use a X login session as kdm, gdm, xdm ?

Oh I forgot to tell.

my box is in runlevel 3 and I have xdm ONLY.

1) I installed the WM aforementioned using another tty (tty2) login as root
2) quit X if it is running
3) Run xwmconfig to change WM
4) Save settings and startx

For wmaker,
/usr/bin/wmaker warning:could not open IM

For Blackbox,
Bscreen::BScreen: managing screen 0 using visual 0x21, depth24
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or shutdown)
