wicd doesn't start

When I try to start wicd I get pop-up with:
Quote:
Could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages.
The directory /var/log/wicd is empty. Where should the logs be?

Installed wicd-1.7.2.4-i486-4 with slackpkg.

I'm running Slackware 14.1 with Network Manager managing the networks and I'm using XFCE.
I wanted to try wicd, because with the NM the network connection breaks every now and then.

With Mint 13 there were no problems with the net, so I don't think the problem lies in hardware.

Disable network manager:
Code:
# /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager stop
# chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager
Enable Wicd:
Code:
# chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.wicd
# /etc/rc.d/rc.wicd start
Then configure your connection with wicd-curses or wicd-gtk applications.

Everything seems to work except my passphrase doesn't get accepted.
Code:
  File "/usr/share/wicd/gtk/gui.py", line 253, in handle_connection_results
    error(self.window, language[results], block=False)
KeyError: dbus.String(u'bad_pass')
I guess I should find a way to translate the passphrase to hex.

Did you make sure to change the drop down box to one that contains (Passphrase)?

Eg; "WPA 1/2 (Passphrase)"

By default it sets to "WPA 1/2 (Hex)" if i remember rightly. That would give you a bad password error. If you want to enter a plaintext password, select the "(Passphrase)" equivalent.
