Why tar 1.13 in pkgtools?

Hi,

Out of curiosity:
What is the reason for using tar 1.13 and not newer versions in pkgtools?
What behavior has changed and what is the desired one?

Modern tar doesn't like to work with symlinks in the directory tree. Tar-1.13 doesn't muck things up. I think it was asked about libarchive and bsdtar could work in it's place, but that was many moons ago and I forget what was said other than "no".

Silly me, but it still sometimes happens to me that asking a human is easier than asking the computer ;)

Thanks for the link!
