Whilst it is grammatically incorrect, infamous is often used, colloquially, to mean widely known as opposed to widely known in a bad way. Also you have to remember that English is not Alien Bob's native language.

Personally I'm glad that Slackware is so stable that we have time to discuss semantics.

You could claim it's infamous because it makes it trivial to set up a local mirror of your Slackware of choice, thus potentially straining the bandwidth of the mirror you mirror from. Personally, I think Alien Bob just has a wry sense of humour.

Or, in this case, 'infamous' is being used tongue-in-cheek, like my Pulitzer-winning dissertation on "Flatulent Emanations from the Average 17 year-old Male After Eating My Infamous '8 Alarm Chili' Causing Wall Paint to Change Colors Spontaneously".

(I haven't wrote it up yet, tho. The air in here is so toxic, the paper dissolves...)

Alien Bob's script is rock-steady and reliable, I *really* like it a lot. Absolutely first rate. :)

Ah ok, understood. I just wondered if the people running the rsync mirrors had some problem with it. I noticed that ouosl.org suggest their rsync service should be used for primary or secondary mirrors.

Alien Bob's command of English is not in doubt. In fact, I like going to the Netherlands just to hear English spoken properly. I live in Glasgow ;)

As I understand it the good people at osuosl don't have a problem with Slackware users maintaining their own local mirror of Slackware-current.

This is the (very polite) message I noticed when rsync'ing to current this morning:

Yes. Your valid concern was raised in another thread; one of our developers (Alien Bob, I think, if memory serves) stated that it was just fine to run a local mirror of -current.

I find it much more polite to keep a local mirror than to update all 4 machines seperately. :)
