I do have to admit i had never touched linux before in my life and i tried ubuntu, suse, and fedora, and slackware.Even though i keep switching and trying different distros i keep coming back to slack. It's definitely the best i've found.

I suspect this is why the person who started this thread says 'hate's Pat' lol. I tried other stuff before going to slack. Tried some other things while learning slack and get the system tweaked right. Now that I've been slack only I too can hardly stand to even load other linux's. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if slackware ever went out of business I'd probably leave linux. I simply cannot find anything out there that is right. So put my vote in here too, I hate Pat too, cuz he ruined linux for me LOL kidding.
The original post is so true. What is it about Slack that haunts you when you try out a new distro? You kind of feel like your cheating on your girlfriend. Its kind of fun for a few hours, then you just feel horrible.... God, I hate Pat....

Heh-heh, well-said. I find the same thing.......I'm tempted to run a shiny rpm distro like Suse 10.1 and I'll run it for awhile.....but......then I always come home to the real deal.....Slackware!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets slackware withdraws, but I think I may give (k)ubuntu another shot, but this time I'm going to create a new partition so I can always run back to my one true friend....
Yeah, I actually installed the Ubuntu Dapper RC and was pretty impressed with how slick it is. But it just isn't Slackware. I've never had the feeling the Slackware was at all buggy. Just incredibly solid.

Slackware is a very homey distro. I hadn't used Linux since early 2003 before a few weeks ago. I decided to try Debian, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Ubuntu in VMs before I settled on a new OS; but, I went back to Slackware in the end.
To me, Slackware == Linux. It's clean, simple, and unobtrusive. I too 'hate' Pat for making Slackware what it is today.
