Just my two cents and sure to get me flamed, but I'd take swaret and any auto-updater and chuck them as far as I could!
As far as 10.0 being perfect, i am afraid it's far from it. I'm still trying to figure out if 10 is better or worse thatn 9.1. The PERFECT Slackware, unfortunately was 8.1 and things just keep coming down hill since then. It's nice to have all the new progs and hardware capabilities, but the bug-count gets higher each time. I think 10.0 was probably rushed, since kernel 2.4.27 wasn't ready. And kernel 2.6.x, as all new kernel trees, will need to get to about revision 20 or so before it's REALLY starting to work out most of the problems. I'm a developer, so I have to keep up with the pack, but I sur do miss working with slack 8.1. I'm not alone, either. Check the profiles for some of the geeks here and you'll see that they use 8.1 also. |
I think it depends on what you are doing with your box. ( as always... )
As a developer, you might find a lot of bugs the "normal" User will never see. |

In any given "change implementation" scenario, there will always be three parties... 1) The Conservatives "Why the heck was it changed... it was already perfect!" 2) The Futurists "About bloody time... but that's already obsolete!" 3) The Conformists "That's fine with me." Not that there's anything "wrong" with being in any of those categories. In fact, it is unavoidable. However, when it comes to Linux in general, and Slackware in particular. You will always have choices... one of which is the choice to stick with a version that makes you happiest. Cheers! |
after a long break, current just started moving again !
