why has directories owner changed?

I've just noticed that /usr, /usr/local, /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/lib are owned by the standard user I log in with the most and the users group.
Is it possible I did this somehow when i created the user account or accidentally by some other means(to 4 directories??) or should I regard it as a sign that someone has been messing with my system?

Did you compile some package using your own useraccount instead of being root, and then installed that package as root?

If you've installed a package with files owned by your regular user, then / is probably also owned by yourself. (Check with `ls -ld /`) Has happened to me a few times...

yep / also, but mostly directories under /usr/local which is where I mainly install things. I hadn't considered that would happen. Something to keep an eye on. Thanks for that.
