Question Why can't I open the CD drive?

Hello guys,
just put together my new system (AMD Opteron-based) and tried to install Slackware 10.2 from the ISO CDs.
All goes well until it's time to unmount the second CD and insert the first CD (when the installation procedure inserts the kernel - I used sata.i).
The message is to insert the first CD, and I press the button on the CD drive which is supposed to open the door but the CD refuses to respond!
It's as if the 'umount' command had not been issued.
Of course that means the whole installation is aborted.
I have tried to force the drive door open but it's locked and looks like it will break if I force it too far.
It's starnge because I had no problems when it asked me to put in the second disk in the first place...

My questions are:
- has anyone out there found a similar problem?
- is there a way around this?

Thanks for any help.
Frustrated

Choose "use the same kernel used during installation" (it's similar, not the exact phrase) or switch to another vt and umount the cd from there (if you can't, at least you'll know why).

I never had it happen.

Just so you know there is a small hole in the front of cd-doors. Just stick a paper clip in and it unlatches is a better suggestion than pulling on the door.

Also if you have a big hard drive, copy the cd's over, and install using HD install.

Talking Thanx

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
I have finally solved the issue.
I found I have a dodgy drive and your support has helped me track it down.

Once again thanks very much for your help, it was invaluable.
