Where to find slack14.0.2012 Mayan Calender Logo?

I'd like to make a new desktop theme for my dwm desktop and xdm login screen based on the new Mayan calendar themed slackware 14.0.2012 logo

Please, does anyone know where I can find a nice high-res version of the new 14.0.2012 Mayan calender slackware logo suitable for a desktop wallpaper? 1024x768 or better would be nice. An svg would be ever better as it would allow me to fine tune the sizes. :)

engaget seem to have a small sized .jpg of it at http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....e-linux-14.jpg, or I could crop the small one out of the lilo bmp files myself, but that wouldn't be ideal for the quality.

The only ones I can find on the system with 'locate' are on the lilo bmp files.

update:

Actually, because of the 'distressed' look, cutting the image from the lilo screen doesn't make that bad a result, but It'd still be nice to work from a better source.

I created the lilo bitmap from an example picture of the t-shirt (somewhat larger than you find in the Store). I do not have the original bitmap either.
The wrinkles in the t-shirt are still somewhat visible as the blue-ish stains in the lilo bitmap... perhaps that is what you call tthe "distressed" look?

440x418.png. Might be better than what you guys already have.

GazL 10-01-2012 09:23 AM

Thanks Eric. I didn't realise you'd pulled it directly from the t-shirt images.

I did noticed the blue stuff when I was playing around with the colour balance. Wondered what was causing that. :)

By 'distressed' I meant the 'aged' look on the lettering and iconographs itself, which tend to mask any resizing artefacts.
Not to worry, I'm sure I can make something workable out of what I have.

Update:

I've attached one that I've cleaned up and made into a 1024x768 wallpaper (looks good centred on a 1920x1080 widescreen too).
I cropped it from the lilo bmp files, used gimp to remove the t-shirt fold shadows, resized and centred the image on a 1024x768 canvas.
and also adjusted the colours a little to remove some of the garishness from the gold.

If anyone wants the cleaned-up crop in gimp..xcf format drop me a PM and we'll sort something out.

Beautiful homenage. lilo bitmap turned wallpaper =) Cool

Wait a sec, theres a mayan themed lilo splash? Do we have to do a full 14.0 reinstall to get that? My 13.37->current->14.0 boxen don't seem to have it..

willysr 10-02-2012 03:33 AM

No, it's only available in T-Shirts, but some people are creative enough to make a wallpaper from it :)

Alien Bob 10-02-2012 03:57 AM

Here is the file I created, and which I re-used to create that second bitmap: ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/s...k14.0.2012.bmp
It is installed as part of the lilo package. You do have it on your computer already, as "/usr/doc/lilo-23.2/sample/slack14.0.2012.bmp".

Eric

Another unexpected treasure. Just replaced it in my lilo.conf and rebooted. Looks great!

Thanks for the hint.

(Eric: as soon as I've upgraded my "Microlinux Enterprise Desktop" and my "Microlinux Enterprise Server" from 13.37 to 14.0, I'll switch from read-only to fully available on SlackDocs.org. I really want to base all my installs for new clients on 14.0 rather than 13.37. ETA about ten days to a couple of weeks.)

willysr 10-02-2012 08:04 AM

i didn't expect that to be included in lilo documentation :)
looks great to replace 13.37 bitmap file

Thanks

It's things like this that make me love this distro. Cheers Eric, looks great! :)

Can't reboot right now - but look forward to seeing the new boot screen! Thanks.

Had a play this afternoon and made myself a rotating animated gif from it.
http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/9968/slack14.gif (4MB)

Couldn't get it much smaller without either making it too jerky or too small to see.

That's a nice clean copy of the design John. Thankyou. How did you create it?

John VV 10-03-2012 04:55 AM

i went to the original source used for the shirt ( i think? )

photos are my life ( well imaging data from spacecraft , that is)

so it is a easy task to do a " down and dirty" quick image

added rings around it and slackware in the middle

then ran a PDE inpainting program on it to enlarge it and smooth it out

I tried that first on the tee shirt image ( did not work well )

Someone know where I can read how to interpret this type of Mayan calendar?

*EDIT: I want to make a conky of this and used as a real calendar ;)

*EDIT2: According to this site: http://www.webexhibits.org/calendars...dar-mayan.html, the number of months are not the same as in logo. The "Haab" calendar contains 18 months:

1. Pop
2. Uo
3. Zip
4. Zotz
5. Tzec
6. Xul
7. Yaxkin
8. Mol
9. Chen
10. Yax
11. Zac
12. Ceh
13. Mac
14. Kankin
15. Muan
16. Pax
17. Kayab
18. Cumku

The last one on the logo "UAYEB" cannot be found, is this something made up? :)

*EDIT3: No, the last one is a period of five days at the end of the year. Ah, ok, sorry for spamming lol.

The fact that there are actually 19 months makes me question whether or not this is a yearly calendar at all.

There are 19 years in the lunar cycle, the cyclic period after which the moons position and eclipses start repeating themselves.

I propose that this is not a calendar of months but a calendar of years in the moons cycle.

Here is the wikipedia link for the Metonic cycle:

Tonight I made a KDM and Ksplash theme using the template John VV provided. Where would be a good place to host the files for people to grab? I have no site of my own to put them on.

Thanks for the heads up about zshare, John.

Here is a KDM login screen for Slackware 14:
Galtactic-Slack-14_KDM.tar.gz - 10.7 Mb

Here is a Ksplash theme for Slackware 14:
ksplash-GalacticSlack-14.tar.gz - 10.3 Mb

Here is a KDM login suitable for any Slackware release:
Galactic-Slack_KDM.tar.gz - 10.2 Mb

and finally a Ksplash theme for any Slackware release:
ksplash-GalacticSlack.tar.gz - 10.0 Mb

"zSHARE is commited to cooperate with any and all legal authorities if an investigation should arise."

It seems that they would be willing to sell people out the the FBI anyways.

Cute idea, but its a bit out (Wayeb/uayeb is not a month, its just 5 days).

*edit- have a look at the long count/haab, and the way it works, its clear that the 18x20+5 system is months.
