Where is "/etc/sysconfig" on slackware 10.1

Well
I guess "/etc/sysconfig" is available in all the distros, specially in Redhat and fedora .But whats its equivalent in slackware. In /etc directory the only noticable directory i fond is /etc/rc.d" which contains the start up scripts.
I am asking this because lots of programs refer to this directory during configuration.
The most recent problem i have faced is when i tried to install a bootsplash screen downloded from www.kde-look.org .Its "readme" file reads like this.

_________________
TO INSTALL

Untar the bootsplash pack and copy the result folder in "/etc/bootsplash/themes/" directory
Edit "bootsplash" file located in "etc/sysconfig/" directory and write the name of the new bootsplash in the "THEME line"

EXAMPLE:

# Choose the bootsplash theme. It should be based in
# /etc/bootsplash/themes/
THEME="mPtTybOB" (CHANGE THIS LINE)
## Path: System/Boot

Open a Terminal Console as root and type: "mkinitrd -s(your screen resolution)" and then type: lilo
Reboot

________________________________

i also cant find the "/etc/bootsplash/themes" directory too.Any thing u know about it please help.

I think you can permamently change the default by editing changing it while in root.

With all due respect, you guessed wrong. The directory /etc/sysconfig should (but not must) be available in System V-based distros, as RedHat, Fedora, SuSE, Mandrake, etc.

Slackware is a BSD-based distro.

Here, some of UNIX history.

To answer your question, as you've guessed, /etc/rc.d is the directory you want. It can be called the equivalent just because we have rc.inet1.conf and rc.wireless.conf in there. Which are 'system configuartion' files that get called upon by bootscripts.

In fact, if you like having an /etc/sysconfig because you are used to it, move those 2 files to a new /etc/sysconfig directory and then change any refrences to their locations in the bootscripts to point to /etc/sysconfig instead of /etc/rc.d....

In fact, I sort of prefer this myself as I consider /etc/rc.d to be a bootscript only directory and not to contain config files. There is no right or wrong. You can do whatever you wish.. But traditionally speaking, yea, /etc/sysconfig is a SysVinit directory so therefore isn't on slackware. Same reason why there is no /etc/rc.d/init.d and rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d directories...

Hunt around for Slackware bootsplash packages on linuxpackages.net or elsewhere and look at how they do it. It will give you a better idea on how to proceed.

It's not actually a bsd based distro. It uses bsd style init scripts.

yup, it's BSD style init scripts vs. System-V style init scripts, my mistake.

Here, more on Unix and Unix-like init
