Well after playing witha few the decision is XFce.

Not too hevey like gnome KDE but not too light weight like Fluxbox.

I needed to be able to change the volume level in an easy fasion and check on my laptop battery without having to go find it in proc.

XFce is fairly Light looks nice, has a few good theams loads quick and has a menu system that you dont have to slick on some blank screen some where to use. also has a very simple printer manager (not that i have used it) and can have other addins like battery monitor and system monitor easyly.

XFce is for me.
