What version of Xorg is installed with Slackware Current?

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to determine if the legacy fglrx driver from ATI will work before I try to install it. The chipset I have (RS690) will not work with fglrx if the Xorg is 7.5 or above. I know that the X server is version 1.4.2, but I cannot find what version xorg itself is.

The newest versions of other distros I use (Ubuntu and Fedora will no longer have a proprietary ATI fglrx available so only open source will be available, as they both use xorg 7.5. I don't think the open source radeon driver is ever going to work for direct rendering, and scrolling is choppy without it.

If anyone can tell me the xorg version in Slack current, I would be grateful.

Bob

As it stands now, Slackware -current has xorg-server 1.4.2 which is X.org release 7.3.

X.org release 7.4 uses xorg-server 1.5.1 and X.org release 7.5 uses xorg-server 1.6.x.

Thank you. That was the information I needed. It looks like fglrx might just work.
