What to Remove
Hey everyone, I have sucessfully installed slackware linux and have began to run my website off of it. But everything is loading awfully slow. Is there a way to make the pictures load faster (image quality is down) by removing things. I choose a full install btw.

You can uninstall almost everything that has nothing to do with a webserver and it shouldn't be slow like that even with a full install. I have several servers running a web server and it's not even close to slow as long as Xwindows isn't running. Even with it running it's at a decent speed unless it has more then 100 users logged on. Are u sure it' not something else?

I remember posting a similar thread a few months back.. Its mainly on how much i can reduce slackware, and how many packages i can remove. Let me search for it while i write this reply :)
I made a list of all the packages that i had left, and they weren't that many. I think the OS reduced itself to around 150 megs in the end. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&highlight=pam I haven't used that machine as a webserver since the last post there, but nothing should really change but the software versions. Note: I also removed all the compilers from it to save space. You might need them, so don't remove gcc, g++, etc... Also, i removed X to save space.. If you still need to use X at any time, then keep the X11 packages. As for speed, your speed shouldnt be affected weather you have a full system, or just a the few packages installed. It seems a bit strange that you're getting that issue.. EDIT Quote:
