What processor type do I choose?
I am going to try and compile a new kernel (again sigh). My cpu is an Athlon 64 x2 3800+ dual core. When I try to choose the Opteron/Athlon64 option it will always change it to Durron/Athlon as soon as I move off of that section. Is this ok? Also should I enable symmetric multiprocessing? I know my cpu is a "dual-core" but I'm not sure if linux considers it two processors or not.

First question: Should be OK but not sure why it would change by itself?
Second question: Yes; it needs to be enabled to use the second core

I have no idea why it keeps changing, but it definetely will not let me select the Athlon64. Also when I recompiled a new kernel just to test highmem, a different processor, and multiprocessing my sound server doesn't work anymore. Pretty weird seeing how I didn't even touch anything else.
