What kernel am I using???

How do I find out plz? I was having a nosey at the linux tutorials on site, particularly This one
I think mine is 2.4.13 (or something like) but if that the case is the kernel in the above link a newer one than mine, for me to mess around with.
To be honest though I haven´t a clue what I´m doing so are these tutorials easy for an absolute newbie to follow

uname -a

works okay.

You can also:

cd /boot
ls

You will see the boot files - system map, config and the vmlinux kernel binary file. If done smart, who installed them will have imbedded the version number in the file names. For example, I have several kernels installed on this system (some of which I built myself to add support for various things - a Debian distro btw - my slackware box is very similar - specifically the point about the version being appended to the filename):

root@hostmachine:/boot# ls
System.map-2.4.27-10-386 grub
System.map-2.4.27-10-386-old initrd.img-2.4.27-2-386
System.map-2.4.27-2-386 initrd.img-2.4.27-2-586tsc
System.map-2.4.27-2-586tsc initrd.img-2.4.27-2-686
System.map-2.4.27-2-686 vmlinuz-2.4.27-10-386
config-2.4.27-10-386 vmlinuz-2.4.27-10-386-old
config-2.4.27-10-386-old vmlinuz-2.4.27-2-386
config-2.4.27-2-386 vmlinuz-2.4.27-2-586tsc
config-2.4.27-2-586tsc vmlinuz-2.4.27-2-686
config-2.4.27-2-686

from KDE...

The KDE system information tool says which kernel are you using, information about your CPU, memory, disks and much more.

Good luck!
