What is causing gam_server to start?

I've done a quick ldd, and worked out that Thunar and xfdesktop have a dependancy upon gamin. I don't use XFCE or Thunar, so what is it that is starting gam_server?

There's no mention of it under /etc/rc.d.

As a KDE user, do I need gamin?

I wondered about that too.
It seems to be started from /usr/libexec/gam_server
I dont know if you need it, but you could removepkg gamin-0.1.8-i486-2, or just move the libexec entry temporarily and see if it makes any difference to you?
(I use xfce sometimes, so i'm gonna leave it)

gamin uses the inotify subsystem in the kernel to detect file changes in real-time. kdelibs is linked against it - don't remove it.
