What in the heck is this???

I just found out that there is a hidden directory comming off of the root directory named "." it holds just about the same tree as my root directory. What the hell is it? what is it for?

type this in on a command line to see the contents for yourself

That IS the root directory. You're familiar with how . means the current directory, I hope.

You can do that to any directory.

ls /home/user/./
ls /var/log/./
ls /etc/./

Nothing abnormal, just looks weird in syntax.
There's no hidden ./ directory :-D
