What I really liked about slackware after booting for the first time...
 
was the boot messages scrolling by on a black screen, then stopping at the log-in prompt.

Straight away I thought, Im going to like this :D

After working on a windows box at work all day, it feels so good to come home to Slackware at night.

Nothing says blandness and obscurity like a bland static image as your computer boots. I, for one, would rather know what's happening.

Since few weeks, when I tried out to build CDE, I switched back to init 3 as a default. I have not the time yet to try out further, although I left init 3 as the default, and don't feel like changing back to init 4 . :D
