What do I need to do to get wpa_supplicant working?

I got the wpa_supplicant package from http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/, ran pkginstall on it.

Then I configured rc.inet1.conf, then configured my router.

When I restarted my wlan0, I got this:
Code:
# /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 wlan0_start
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1: wlan0 is 'Any ESSID'
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory
Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory

Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory

What have I forgot/screwed up?

I have to start wpa_supplicant like this

/usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dndiswrapper -B

and then I can configure my wireless device with

iwconfig wlan0 my_options

and

ifconfig wlan0 my_options.

I had already tried that. My issue was my key length. I corrected the problem, and here I am....lol

Thank you anyway. It's up/running now

Same here that's how I have to start it too. except I use the -Bw at the end so it waits for a connection to come up and allways run in background

By the way I like the wpa gui that comes with the supplicant and find that even my wife can use it.
