What's a good replacement for ktts (from kde3.5) for text-to-speech on Slackware 13.3
Hi again!
I am just curious. Having just recently been playing with the ktts text-to-speech package on CentOS 5.6, I was curious to know whether that package was available on Slackbuilds. Unfortunately, it isn't!
Is there a package similiar to that for Slackware (I mean, one where an option in your favourite text editor might be "Read text aloud" or something)? I know that AdobeReader 9.0 does this, but it's not the same as being able to open any text document and having it read out loud to you WITHOUT a lot of hastle!
If there is such a beast, would someone please let me know?
It's probably sitting "right under my nose" in the Slackbuilds, but it's a LARGE depository!
There is also something called svox-pico, which is built on the speech synthesis engine library from android. Someone over at debian did a bit of hacking on the engine to make it run as an application on linux. Has very nice voices -much nicer than the flite voices -although the flite voices have improved and one can choos a voice at run-time. The nicest flite voice is the female one.
