Weird issue with compton

Hi, I am running a 2bwm session. When I get on it this is my first screen:

http://screencloud.net/v/v46D

(I know, astonishing)

I didn't set a wallpaper yet so I set the green background with "xsetroot -solid \#254444" on my .xinitrc. However if I use compton my "wallpaper" turns to this:

http://screencloud.net/v/jQ2Q

And even if I issue "xsetroot -solid \#254444" I can't get the green background back. I know it is not a major issue, but something is wrong somewhere.

I got my compton.conf from here and I didn't change a thing. Unless I am missing something I don't see nothing on the compton.conf that would set a gray background.

Thanks. It is a silly issue but it is still an issue.

PS: My .xinitrc, just in case

This is indeed weird behavior. I se in your .xinitrc that you rename the root-window to 2bwm (why do you do that?). It may be possible that this confuses Compton so that it can't properly determine the root-window. I would start with commenting out that line and try it again.

I've set that because I've seen it somewhere as a way to set the wm name. And it is not causing the issue. I just commented it, restarted X session and it still happens.

That is at least not what the manpage says, but I may be wrong.
Anyways, I can see nothing wrong in your config. Do you have those issues only with 2bwm or also with other WMs?

Well, I only use 2bwm. When I am not using 2bwm I use XFCE so I can't really say.

EDIT: Had i3 installed here, tested on it and as soon as I start compton the gray background appears.

OK, I just tried it with Blackbox and there also the background switches color when Compton is started when using a solid color set with xsetroot, but not when using a wallpaper (set with feh). So it is definitely a Compton issue. A look at the Compton bugtracker only revealed this topic that might be related: https://github.com/chjj/compton/issues/102
Maybe you can try some of the suggestions there or even report this behavior as bug. It seems that the Compton developer is a very helpful guy and can help you to fix that issue.

Well, gonna take a look at that later. I am going on a trip today (or tomorrow). It is kinda of an annoyance cause I liked the green background, wasn't really planning to set a wallpaper. I guess I can get used to the gray background or not use compton.

How about creating a *.jpg of that color green and then using that *.jpg as your wallpaper? You'd have the green background and maybe be able to use compton too? Just a kludge until you can figure out what is going on...

Looks like compton does not support xsetroot [†]. It may be easiest to use a different wallpaper setter, such as feh.

Man, that solution was so simple I didn't think about it lol
